We at Sole 2 Soul Therapies in Wicklow Town offer a variety of healing therapies each customised to the clients requirements. Therapies include: Holistic Massage, Reflexology, Deep Tissue Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hopi Ear Candling and Reiki. While conventional allopathic medicine is vital and necessary ‘holistic’ healing addresses the ‘whole’ of the body not just the physical ailment. Imbalances which occur with in the body are addressed from a mental, emotional and spiritual approach which can often cause physical issues to improve.

We all have an innate ability to help heal ourselves. While we may be suffering form a physical ailment or disease (an imbalance in our body causing dis-ease) we become very aware that we need medical help and we know we need healing. This is because on a physical level we can see it or feel the pain, however when we are in need of healing on an emotion, spiritual or mental level it may not be as apparent. Sometimes we ignore this need for healing and to be honest going to a doctor with a broken heart or because you have money issues won’t really get the kind of healing you are in need of. As we ignore our issues and choose not to heal them they can manifest to a physical level. For example……you have just heard about job losses in your firm or you are deeply unhappy in your relationship, this causes you to worry and to stress. After a while your sleep pattern is disturbed, your blood pressure may be on the rise or you may develop anxiety which manifests as panic attacks or skin psoriasis, to mention but a few. While a visit to the doctor will put a band aid on the illness and you will feel cured or healed the underlying root or cause of the physical manifestation is still there. This will just inevitably resurface and cause another trip to the doctor for more pills or medication. Sometime the very medication can cause other ailments too. What a vicious circle.

As I said earlier conventional/chemical medicine is vital and the holistic approach works beautifully injunction with it. Many people find great coping mechanisms and healing through therapies such as reflexology, massage and reiki. When we sleep it allows our body time to rejuvenate damaged cell and to process our thoughts. Deep relaxation is the key to quality sleep. There is nothing worse than waking up in the morning and feel as tired as the night before because you have had bad sleep.  So when our mind and spirit heal it allows our body to heal.

Many of the physical conditions helped through holistic healing are:

Depression, anxiety and stress

Back and neck pain

Self Confidence issues,

Sleep disorders,

Infertility,

Digestive problems and skin conditions,

Fibromyalgia and MS

Muscular pain

Sexual dysfunction

Low self esteem……

……the list goes on.

What are these therapies?

Reflexology: the foot is like a map of the body. Certain reflex points on the feet and hands correspond to organs and areas of the body. For example the head area is represented but the big toe. Through reflexology we can use pressure and finger techniques to release blocks in our body causing illness through the corresponding part of the foot. A head headache could be alleviated by working on the big toe and the eye reflex points on the foot. As the therapist works over all the foot she may find imbalances which feel crystal like or gritty to the touch. The client may feel slight pain in certain areas and when massaged the pain can leave. Often after a treatment the client feels relaxed and rejuvenated. There can be a sense of a cleansing and balancing.

Massage: most of us can identify with the power of touch. Remember when you were little and falling over grazing a knee was so painful, but a hug and a rub from a parent or loved one made it all better. As adults we forget how much we need physical contact with others and how healing it can be. Through massage the therapist warms up the muscles using different techniques and movements. Once warm the muscles can be worked and strains and knots may be worked out. This alleviates tension and pressure often carried around the neck back and shoulders. Different types of massage can have different results. Deep tissue massage is perfect for anyone suffering form injuries or strained muscles while holistic massage is more relaxing and often induces sleep. Indian Head Massage is deeply therapeutic and is concentrated on the head neck and shoulders.

Reiki: is a hands on/off ancient healing technique which works on correcting the energy which runs through our bodies. The client remains fully clothed and while lying down the therapist who is used as a channel uses her hands to sense where there are energy blocks around the charkas. Bringing the body back into balance helps us to de-stress, relax and to heal. Most people find reiki to be a fascinating experience with a general feeling of well being. Often clients wish to learn how to channel reiki themselves and this can be done through a series of workshops. This is a joyous journey and often leads to a spiritual awakening and enlightenment.

Hopi Ear Candling: This is a great therapy for anyone suffering form ear problems. Conditions such as tinnitus, sinus, rhinunitus, headaches, migraine and hay fever can be completely cured using ear candling. Ear candling should only be preformed by a trained therapist. The special candle is hallow and infused with essential oils. When placed in the ear it is lit allowing the infusion into the ear and helping to clear the problem. After the treatment the therapist can read the residue (this is not wax from the ear) and determine if further treatments are needed or if the ears are clear.

All of these therapies have been practised for thousands of years. This is testament to their success and I have no doubt that they will be around for many more years to come.

THE SACRAL CHAKRA: ORANGE This is the second chakra and it is located in the lower abdomen just under the navel. The sacral chakra governs sexual and reproductive organs, it  also governs the pancreas, spleen and intestines. Skin, kidney, mammary  glands. Ovaries, testicles, prostrate, spleen. When the sacral chakra is  unbalanced one can have problems in any of these physical areas. The sacral  chakra activates at age 8 and governs the spiritual body from ages 8-14.  Whatever happens from 8 to 14 years of age effects the sacral chakra. If you  have had some trauma in that time period and find yourself to be unbalanced it  is probable that it is a sacral chakra issue.

It also affects how your emotions are working, how well you can use your brain for things like making decision, your skills, how well you control yourself, whether or not you get addicted to something, as well as your ability to handle sexual relationships and how creative you may be.

This chakra is our emotional seat within the body. It is how we express our emotions, how we deal with our emotions and how our thoughts become our emotions. Our sacral chakra is all about our emotions and how our emotions effect our actions. It is how we express the emotions we feel. How do we express our anger, love, fear etc. We need to be aware of our emotions and how they make us feel.

Have you ever walked into a room full of people and within moments you feel like leaving as you are not comfortable? You feel an inner fear or unease….a gut feeling (clairsentience), then seconds later a fight breaks out or some disaster occurs. Allowing ourselves to be in control of emotions and to trust them has a balancing effect on this chakra. Trust your gut instinct.

If you have an imbalance around your sacral chakra it can manifest on a physical level as low back pain, constipation or even sexual type diseases/disorders. Skin disorders, kidney problems and issues around the ovaries are common when the sacral chakra is not balanced also. It can cause emotional distress, cloudy mental thinking, and apathy. If you let it continue, it will get worse and you will have trouble making even simple daily decisions.

If your sacral chakra is balanced and healthy you will have a vitality of life and decision making will be easy and never a core or a stress. Your creativity will be unmatched and you will have less physical ailments. You will feel more confident and not think of yourself as a victim, because you will be in charge of your own emotions. You will also enjoy a more fulfilling sex life.

Many of us have sacral chakra imbalances due to family, cultural and societal conditioning and programming. Some people have been raised to let their emotions run wild while others have been warned it’s not safe to have feelings. Some have learned to live in their heads, not trusting their gut instincts and others have their clairsentience turned on so high they pick up emotions from everyone around them. And then there’s sexuality – what a bag of mixed messages. our relationships with siblings and past lovers are governed here. If you have issues around these relationships they can cause and imbalance and sometimes an invisible tie to that person. This can often cause a repeat of relationship issues in our behaviour.

When we balance our second chakra we feel comfortable expressing our own emotions while not taking on other people’s, we trust our gut but don’t use it to sift through everyone else’s experiences, and we allow our sexual energy to flow, adding vitality and life force to our body.

Balance Your Emotions

What emotions are you comfortable feeling and expressing? Is sadness okay but not anger? Can you be amused but not joyful? Can you vibrate as high as enthusiasm? Can you handle boredom or do you stuff it down with drama or busyness?

What were the messages you received about acknowledging and expressing feelings as you grew up? “Feelings are for wimps,” is what some boys were told. “Take care of everyone else’s feelings,” is what some girls interpreted. As you bring awareness to the beliefs you adopted, you can begin to sort the lies from the truth. As parents we are all guilty of telling our children to'stop crying'....shame on us!

Emotions are the body’s way of communicating to us. As you process emotions, they lighten and are easy to manage. Each day, take a few moments of inner silence to check in with your body. Ask your body what its feeling and let the emotions rise to the surface. As you do this, you’ll notice that each emotion has its own vibration. Like the keys on a piano, each emotion has a higher or lower tone than another. Apathy is at the bottom of the scale, then boredom, sadness, anger, amusement, joy and enthusiasm. Play with allowing each of these to flow freely in your body. Feel the vibration of each and notice it become clearer as you release everyone else’s emotions along with the misguided rules governing them.

This can be great for accepting the emotions you have and taking control of them.  You can decide that maybe too much of one particular emotion is not really doing much good for you and so you need to create a balance in order to make room for another emotion such as joy.

Your Gut Instinct is Yours!

Clairsentience is the ability to sense clearly what is going on in and around you. Like when you walked into that room and sensed that a fight was going to break out.  Or when you friend is laughing and joking but you sense a sadness about her. Later she tells you her husband has been having an affair.

Being able to sense what’s going on with others can be a useful tool, but when over-used or left wide open, it can become emotionally exhausting and lead to co-dependent relationships. But what if you are feeling too much? It is possible to feel low, emotional and upset by thinking about others around you and in your life. When your friend is telling you all about their troubles are you in floods of tears and inconsolable after she leaves?

If you can relate to this or consider yourself an empathic person, play with turning down this aspect of your second chakra while using your clear seeing (6th chakra) abilities to discern what is going on around you. This way you will be less likely to take on other people’s emotions and problems.

Heal Sexuality Issues

Just mentioning the word “sex” can trigger an array of reactions from embarrassment to anxiety in many people. With all of the taboos and rules around sex, many people have shut down their natural sexual energy or act it out inappropriately. And of course, many people have experienced sexual abuse, which adds further pain to the topic.

One aspect of healing sacral chakra imbalances involves healing sexual issues and releasing rigid rules and regulations around having your sexual energy flowing whenever you want. This energy is not just for having sex; it’s a form of vital life force energy which enlivens the body. Play with consciously allowing this energy to flow and notice how it feels as you clear out old, limiting messages. Tune into your second chakra and imagine turning on your sexual energy. Feel the essence of this vibration and allow it to flow through your whole body. Trust yourself to have healthy energetic boundaries as you let your sexuality expand.

Other ways to help balance your sacral chakra are to meditate on this chakra. During a meditation guide your inner thought and feeling towards your sacral chakra. Visualise orange and feel it healing your sacral chakra. Imagine the petal of the flower opening and orange pouring into it. Wear orange, surroind yourself in orange and become aware of orange in your daily life. welcome its warmth.

If you are attuned to reiki you can place your hands over this chakra and send the intention here to heal and balance the sacral chakra. Using the emotional symbol with the power symbols would be helpful. Use crystals associate with this chakra to increase the vibration. Citrine is one of my favourites.

As this chakra is our creative and expressive chakra try writing, drawing, singing, dancing. Whichever way you find helpful to balance this chakra, enjoy the process and be grateful……what a nice feeling to have.

THE BASE CHAKRA: RED This is the first chakra and spins at the slowest rate. Also known root chakra. It is associated with the earth and grounding. It is our survival chakra. It is about putting bread on the table, protection, shelter and survival.  Sexual desire, danger, blood, anger. Sexual reproduction rather than the pursuit of sexual activity. The desire to reproduce in order to preserve our survival. Red signifies blood red, blood being a connection to survival, which on a physical level can manifest as lower back pain, colon cancer, sciatica, blood pressure problems, low immune system and candidia. All lower parts of the body associated with the base chakra. Legs, lower back, feet, knees, hands, large intestine, spine, kidneys and nervous system.  Strangely the sense of smell is linked to this chakra as it is a primal instinctive sense. The corresponding endocrine glands are the adrenal glands and gonads. When this chakra is functioning fully the person has a great will to live and to enjoy life. Life is a great adventure and nothing is too much trouble. If the centre is blocked the person’s energy levels will be low and they will have to enthusiasm for life. Think about when you feel fear (as in to be rooted in fear) Fear is such a threat to our survival.

The root chakra is related to issues around physical security. Finances: money, bills……Career: making enough money, being in right job, redundancy fear, promotion…………Home: desire to move, feeling of safety…….Physical Safety: Feeling safe or unsafe………..Needs: having enough to eat, clothing……Possessions: cars, furniture……Fear around any of the root chakra concerns make the centre shrink in size and become murky. It creates a feeling of not having enough, not ever being able to get enough and limits potential.

Some of the common problems when the root chakra is not balanced: Chrons disease, Constipation, Diarrhoea, Piles, Cold fingers/toes, Kidney issues, Impotence, Problems with hips, legs and feet, restless legs, Lower back pain, Lack of energy, Obsessed with money/possessions, Feeling insecure….I could go on but I think we all have experienced some of these issues before and some are probably still suffering.
So how can we restore some balance to our root chakra?

It can be easier than it sounds. If you think your root chakra is out of balance there are a few things you can do to help restore it to its optimum. You may like to try a therapy like Reiki, Crystal healing or many of the other therapies offered. But you can also do so much yourself once you are aware of the imbalance.

Each morning before you jump out of bed just spend a minute or two greeting the day. Don’t do the mad panic dash to get the kids up or rush off to work, stubbing your toe and standing on lego in the process…..not a nice way to start the day.  This only takes a few minutes. Welcome the day and what is about to unfold. Be grateful for the lovely sleep you just had. (Hopefully you slept well) Be grateful for all you have and all you have achieved and all you have not achieved yet.  Accept what is in store for the day and send some positive thoughts to it. If you do find a little or even a great big fat negative thought creeping in here just acknowledge it is there but turn it into a positive by just accepting it for what is but knowing you are working on changing this. As you are balancing your root chakra you may want to place your hands behind on your lower back or on the front pelvic region. Focus on this area with the intention of healing it and feeling grounded. Now when you are ready get up slowly and place your feet on the floor. Consciously feel your feet touch the floor, be aware of the feeling, wriggle your toes and as you take your first few steps imagine that your feet are heavy almost rooted into the ground.

This is a simple exercise and can really make a difference to your day. You will have started the day so positively and feel grounded. Once you feel grounded other issues become easier to deal with, sometimes issues no longer seem like issues. You need to be more present and living in the present moment as what you do in the present moment is creating your past and your future. If you worry and have fears now that is what your past will be full of and that is what you will manifest for your future. Now who wants that?  When your root chakra is balanced and you are feeling grounded all your other charkas gain positive energy from this and help to create an all over well being. The root chakra is a little like the foundation of a building. If they are not straight, secure and balanced the building will fall down. Thankfully building which fall down can be rebuilt.

Other methods of grounding yourself can be through being out doors…go out your garden, a park, forest the beach or a favourite spot outside. Now just BE… present in that moment….it does not matter if you can not empty your mind of thought…just feel the ground, hear the birds, feel the heat of the sun or the dampness of the rain, what can you smell?. Take some deep cleansing breaths and know that you are part of the beautiful nature around you; you are part of the universe and this energy of creation.

Dance…take a local dance class. Join a yoga group. If you are attuned to Reiki use your reiki to self heal focussing on you base chakra. Surround yourself in the base chakra colours….RED. Start noticing red in your daily life, especially in nature. Wear something red. Red underwear is a good one and very commonly worn to help balance the root chakra.  Try guided meditation. Try visualisation…imagine you are similar to a tree the sun shines on your head (the universal light enters your crown chakra) this strengthens the body or the tree and the roots at the base or foot of the tree grown deep into the earth. Visualise you have roots growing from the bottom of your feet and into the ground creating a connecting to the earth. Spend a few minutes feeling this.

Which ever way you find best to ground yourself do it with an attitude of gratitude. If you think you have nothing to be grateful for try being grateful for being able to do the grounding or for trying something new. I believe that gratitude is such a powerful feeling that it can help to dull negative thoughts and feelings. As I use my reiki daily and start my day grounding myself I find that it has become second nature to be to be grateful for all that I have and all that I am. My gratitude has become part of my grounding.

There are many ways to feel grounded and one to suit everyone. If you would like to know more please contact me and I can help guide
